Eyelid Surgery Down 8% During Recession

A recent report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reveals that cosmetic plastic surgery procedures dropped nine percent in 2008 vs. 2007, including an 8 percent decline in eyelid surgery, or eyelid blepharoplasty.  The article refers to a “sensitivity to weakness in the U.S. economy” as a reason for the overall drop in many of the top cosmetic plastic surgery procedures.

What does this have to do with Eye Magic?  Non-surgical alternatives to surgery will receive additional exposure during this recession as the high cost of surgery will force people to look for inexpensive ways of achieving their desired look.  Eye Magic provides an affordable, non-surgical alternative to droopy eyelid surgery without the high cost or complications.

Here are the full statistics from the ASPS report:

The following are the top-line 2008 National Plastic Surgery Statistics:

  • 12 million total cosmetic plastic surgery procedures; up three percent versus 2007
  • 1.7 million surgical cosmetic procedures; down nine percent versus 2007
  • Top 5: Breast augmentation (307,000; 12 percent decline), Nose reshaping (279,000; two percent decline), Liposuction (245,000; 19 percent decline), Eyelid surgery (221,000; eight percent decline), Tummy tuck (122,000; 18 percent decline)
  • 10.4 million minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures; up five percent versus 2007
  • Top 5: Botox (5 million; eight percent increase), hyaluronic acid fillers (1.1 million; six percent increase), chemical peel (1 million; two percent increase), laser hair removal (892,000; two percent decline), microdermabrasion (842,000; six percent decline)
  • 4.9 million reconstructive procedures; up three percent versus 2007
  • Top 5: Tumor removal (3.8 million; five percent increase), laceration repair (307,000; seven percent increase), scar revision (163,000; eight percent increase), hand surgery (100,000; 13 percent increase), breast reduction (89,000; 16 percent decrease)

Testimonials and Application Tips

Each week here on the Eye Magic blog, we’ll feature a real user testimonial or a tip for helping you correctly apply the product to your drooping eyelids.  The two words to keep in mind when you’re learning to apply Eye Magic are patience and persistence.  Once you get the hang of it,  it becomes as easy as putting on your makeup or contact lenses.

To get us started, here is one of our early testimonials from Elaine M. in Golden City, AZ:

The product is better than I expected. Many years ago there was a similar product on the market but it was made from a heavier material and much more expensive. Thank you for the upgrade!!! I am satisfied and will be sure and purchase more in the future.

If you’re an Eye Magic user and would like to submit a testimonial or application tip, please contact us here.  Any user who submits a testimonial or application tip selected for our site will receive a free Eye Magic product of their choice.

The Eye Magic Eye Lift Story

Hello world! My name is Cecily and I’m the creator of Eye Magic. The story of how I came up with Eye Magic is perfect for my first blog post, so here is a somewhat abbreviated version of how it began.

Everyone in my family has deep set eyes and drooping eyelid skin. It’s genetic, starts early with us, and by my late 30s, I looked old and tired beyond my years. Not only that, but the excess skin on my eyelids sat right on top of my eyeballs making me feel tired when I wasn’t. It drove me crazy. I couldn’t afford the eye lift surgery (upper blepharoplasty) and really didn’t like the idea of the possible complications (like nerve damage resulting in not being able to fully close your eyelids—yes, a friend had this happen and there’s no fixing it).

So I began to experiment with all kinds of nonsurgical solutions for sagging eyelids. I tried everything: double-sided tape, scotch tape, cloth tapes, glue, sticky potions, egg whites, first aid, everything under the sun. No luck. I worked on it (on and off) for three years. Then, as it often happens, about ready to give up, I tried one last thing. And to my utter astonishment, it worked! I had eyelids again and it was so easy! It was literally like magic. I decided right then to call it “Eye Magic”.

After all that work, I realized I had been going about it the wrong way. I was trying to hide the excess skin up under the brow when all that was needed was a little support to keep the skin from sliding forward.  Creating this eye lift was as simple as that.

Once I had the problem solved, the big work began, getting a patent and manufacturing the product. That took lots of focus, money and time. It became a team effort when my husband got involved. Then, with the product in hand, we started work on the website.

For several months before launching the website, I did my own real world testing. It was amazing how many people told me I looked great. I held my breath just waiting for the peering look, the sly question, the outright smirk. It never happened. It’s been several years now of daily wear and, as far as I can tell, no one has ever noticed! I’ve realized that not only are the strips virtually invisible, but people aren’t expecting to see anything because my eyes look so natural. On me, the little fix is hidden away back in the comfy spot where the excess skin is held in place.

So hurray! You’re here at the website where we’re offering this simple, non-surgical solution to people like me; those who want a fix for their upper eyelid problems but don’t want eyelid surgery, can’t afford eyelid surgery, or who aren’t obsessed but want to look great for that special occasion (like that pesky high school reunion. I looked fantastic at mine—in no small part because of Eye Magic. I loved it).

I have used Eye Magic every day for several years now. It takes ten years off my face instantly. I never cease to be amazed by that. So if you are tired of looking tired and want to look younger (who doesn’t?) try Eye Magic. You won’t believe your eyes!
